Since 2005 the oral suspension form was made available which can now be found in 100mg/5ml and 200mg/5ml. You can also find this antibiotic in a 1% ophthalmic solution and an intravenous injection.

On the first day of the treatment, doctors usually prescribe a double dose of the antibiotic following a single dosage for another 4 to 5 days. If you want to use Z-Pak for your infection then you will have to take two tablets of 250 mg i.e. 500 mg on the first day of the treatment and then 250 mg tablet for the remaining days. The 250 mg tablets are in oval shape and mottled pink in color. One side is engraved with “Pfizer” and other side has “306” engraved. The 500 mg tablet is similar with the difference in size and one side is engraved with “ZTM500”. The appearance of the drug might differ if it is being manufactured by other companies other than Pfizer.

The most common side effects of these antibiotics are vomiting, abdominal pain, nausea and diarrhea. Because of the side effects, only less than 1% of the patients stop taking it.
